Are there situations where grids are generally out of place, but flexbox is suitable?

Especially I'm talking about a situation where there are a lot of photos on the site from 100-200 pieces, for example.
1) are there situations where grids are not appropriate at all, but flexbox is just right, or even instead of both of them, it is better to use the same floats, inline block and positions?
2) what exactly are the situations?
3) is it worth using grids when there are 100 or more images of different sizes on the site that need to be arranged in columns?
4) can you show examples of such sites where grids should not be used at all, and where is the best place to choose them?

In general, everything is up to you. Previously, tables or floats were generally used for grids. Which are not designed for this.
However, it is considered a good choice to use grids for grids/layouts, and flex already inside blocks for alignment, order, etc. When there is no clear grid or it is not needed, etc.

Grids were made for grids/layouts.
And flexes to control the flow of elements.
Rely on TK, browser support and common sense.
