Are there modern Java tutorials?

By textbook, I mean books that are built on the principle of "chapter -> exercises". So writes Knut and Kochan.
Now I started to learn Java, read Schildt. There are no exercises. But the material is quite relevant (Java8). I saw that Thinking in Java was built according to the principle I needed, but the last edition was published in 2006.
So the question is: do you know good and modern Java textbooks? Courses (free), by the way, a lecture + exercises, would also come up.

Check out the courses at stepic.org

Have you seen javarush.ru ? There is a sea of exercises, the further the more difficult.
You can also solve Java puzzles on codewars.
I can recommend Sedgwick's book, Algorithms in Java, there are a lot of exercises, and it's not pop, a solid and useful book.
There are a lot of exercises in the Head First book on Java, but I personally don't really like these books.
There are also courses on Java on Hexlet, unfortunately, they are paid.

Java is only expanding.
"Thinking in Java" is a foundation that never loses its relevance.
