Arduino can receive data from wi-fi?

I recently learned about arduino and had a question. For example, I want to compare the temperature transient over wi-fi with the room temperature and return the answer of the difference in degrees. Is it possible to do this? If so, what modules will be needed (preferably with names)? Thanks in advance!

There are WiFi shields, but it's easier to take the ESP8266 right away (if you wish, you can also write code in the Arduino IDE).
