Once there was a great service for creating application localization - Amanuens ( amanuens.com/). He understood the format of Android text resources (including), was able to work as a client with various VCS, which made him very useful and convenient for teamwork. Android has a localization mechanism and there is no point in using gettext. You just need to edit resource files through a convenient web muzzle.
