Android device traffic logging
I have a Samsung I-5700 Spica with official Android 2.1, not rooted.
I noticed an unpleasant fact for myself: NetCounter shows quite a lot of traffic consumption in idle mode. Synchronization is turned off, I don’t go to markets and sites, but 500-1000 KB per day is consistently consumed, sometimes even 5+ MB / day happens. Considering that I have selected a 20MB/month GPRS package, it turns out to be very expensive.
Therefore, there is an idea to find out who is catching up with such traffic, where and for what reason. Google hints that you can install some kind of WireShark in the phone, but it must be rooted. I am not yet ready for such a responsible step, therefore I am looking for a way to do this by external means: connect the phone via wi-fi and at least estimate by IP addresses where the phone goes without my knowledge.
Of the devices, there is a router (DLink DIR-400) with dd-wrt firmware and a laptop. I suspect that on the router you can somehow configure address logging and measure the traffic of a specific device, but given my absolute ignorance of Linux systems, I don’t even know which side to approach the issue. Please, confirm or refute my guesses and tell me how you can organize what you have planned.

The description of the 3G Watchdog Pro (costs $3.08) states that it can show "Usage by Application" but only for Android 2.2. The free version does not do this.
if my memory serves me, then there are already firmware 2.2 for the speaker, so this may be a good way to decide on a flashing. Based on my experience of flashing Spica, there is nothing to worry about.
I decided to check the work of 3G Watchdog free version. For a month of traffic I have 750MB. At the end of the month, it showed that 350MB was spent, but in fact it turned out that all the traffic and 0 rubles on the balance were used ... In general, his error is not bad. The device has Task Killer, 3G Watchdog added to the exceptions.
