Android app monetization

Hello!
Interested in the issue of app monetization.

1) What method do you use (free / paid application?
2) An effective monetization option (you can do it in private if you are afraid in public :), or a general direction.
3) If you use advertising, which operator?
4) Do you spend money on the promotion of the application, or do you have enough posts on websites and forums?
5) Earnings on applications are enough for cookies? But seriously, this is one of the important questions. There are many paid applications in the market, but the number of downloads is small, therefore it is interesting whether it is reasonable or not (yes, it depends on the idea of the application and its popularity in the future).
6) How many applications pay off development?
7) What types of applications (widget, application (game), wallpaper) and what categories are the most popular?

Hello everyone, I see that the branch is quite old, but still I'll insert my 5 kopecks.
I believe that the two most profitable methods of monetization are the sale of in-game currency and advertising. From my own experience, I can say that monetizing apps through advertising is not the easiest option, but it is the fastest and most profitable. Not the easiest in terms of the fact that you need to very competently approach the issue of choosing both the type of advertising (banner, interstitial, video) and the place in your application in which you are actually going to show this ad. This is essentially the most important, because if this is not done correctly, you can pick up a bunch of failures in the stat.
From advertising networks, I immediately wanted to try mediation. I launched my game in January and, guided by the reviews, I connected Admob to it. At first I used only banners and the results were not very good: on Wednesdays. 500K impressions and only $1K per month. Then, in addition to banners, I began to use interstitial and the results improved noticeably: about $3.5-4000 was already coming out per month. According to reviews, Admob seemed to be considered a cool mediation, but in June I stumbled upon another service - Appodeal. I wanted to try them - because they have the opportunity to use a bunch of networks, and even connect your admin account - it turns out something like "mediation in mediation", so in any case you don't lose anything ... I would like to separately note their support , which also helped to implement video ads in my game (rewarded video). Now, one interstitial per month results in about 900K impressions per month. In general, the income from my game in September was $10.1K, so the benefit is obvious in my opinion :) Maybe next year I will try some other service, but so far I don’t see a worthy replacement.
PS if you have any questions - do not hesitate to write in a personal to
everyone successful and profitable monetization;)

I tried advertising - it turned out less than with the sale of applications.
Making money on games is easier than on apps. Of the applications, all-in-one monsters sell well (for simple applications, you can almost always find a free analogue).
This is according to my observations.
I didn’t spend money on promotion, I do it as a hobby.

To monetize android applications, I recommend apperate.online.
They cooperate with Yandex, P&G, etc. (more than 50 advertisers)
+ prepayment for a month) as soon as you implement the SDK

1) What method do you use (free / paid application?
The most popular and simplest model is a free application + advertising. If you correctly set up placements for advertising, then the application can pay off quickly enough.
2) An effective monetization option (you can do it in private if you are afraid of publicly: ), or the general direction.
If DAU is up to 50,000, then ads and/or freemium are the best. If you are too lazy to set everything up and want everything to work fine right away, epom apps will do . If you want to get confused yourself - then admob.
If DAU is more than 70,000, then you can additionally try monetization of user data. The essence of this method is that you collect non-personal user data and transfer the date to a collector that works with another hundred such applications and transfers them to all sorts of research companies. In order to do this correctly, you need to partner with one of the data collectors, get a CDS, prepare and obtain explicit user consent and choose which data you are ready to transfer.
This method can work in parallel with advertising and bring good income. A more or less accurate income calculator is here .
3) If you use advertising, which operator?
Admob, Epom Apps, inMobi
4) Do you spend money on the promotion of the application, or do you have enough posts on websites and forums?
not only a couple of posts are going well, but advertising in social networks for app downloads - Facebook is doing especially well.
5) Earnings on applications are enough for cookies? But seriously, this is one of the important questions. There are many paid applications in the market, but the number of downloads is small, therefore it is interesting whether it is reasonable or not (yes, it depends on the idea of the application and its popularity in the future).
There is definitely no point in rushing around with one application. Especially to pump money into development and finishing if the process drags on. The main thing is to create an MVP (basic version of the application with 1-2 main features) and test it on real users, not on acquaintances.
6) How many applications pay off development?
Everything can pay off from the first one, but according to statistics - on the first one you usually fill all the bumps. if you know how to study, then you will make the second application already in plus
7) What types of applications (widget, application (game), wallpaper) and what categories are most popular?
100% games are more popular than utilities. But there are categories like productivity, sports, etc., which are also quite profitable. Here are the stats:

The thread is old, but I'll join: Now you can make money on your application using the GlobalHop SDK.

1) Free applications are great for any audience
2) The most profitable is the virtual currency in the application.
Replenishment of virtual currency in the application can be organized in several ways:
a. Buying virtual currency for money.
b. Receiving virtual currency for motivated video ad views. AdColony, StartApp ( https://www.startapp.com/) have such videos.
c. Getting virtual currency for completing task boards. OfferWall is available from TapJoy and Fyber advertising networks ( https://www.fyber.com/).
d. If the audience of your application in theory can have Steam playground accounts, then you can add replenishment of the virtual currency of the application with Steam items/skins/cases/cards using OfferSteam (https://offersteam.biz/). People will transfer various game items to your Steam account and receive virtual currency in the application. Then you can instantly sell the received game gear through the Steam marketplace using the Steam Inventory Helper browser extension or on third-party marketplaces.
3) -
4) Advertising in VKontakte groups is very effective, negotiate directly with the owners of the groups. Write to several admins at once and choose the most profitable option, be sure to request a link to the group's statistics.
5) You need to earn on free applications.
6) Few applications pay off the development, so you need to think in advance about monetization and, more importantly, ADVERTISING / Promotion (Determine who your audience is).
7) I like applications with cash payments, they always have a user's balance, and you first need to replenish it somehow (OfferWall - paid tasks or OfferSteam - Steam items / skins).
