Android and embedded video in pages?

Is it possible to make video playback in the default browser not through flash, but through html5? Removing Adobe Flash does not lead to video playback through html5 - I can tell right away.
In general, I want it to be the same as on iPhone / iPads.
ps I was prompted to think about this by a video on a life hacker, which compares the performance of the Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab specifically in terms of video playback.
I have an HTC Desire on Android 2.2 if that matters.

@butteff

SkyFire browser by default plays video via html5.
At the very tablet on the android, they played YouTube until they installed the appropriate program.
With a flash somehow it is impossible to make friends with him.
