And yet, how does windows server know about the number of physical server processors?
Hey!
Gentlemen, I am tormented by a question regarding windows licensing. Let's say we have a physical server with 8 cores running ESXi. We create a virtual machine with 2 virtual processors and install windows server on it. Will a standard license for 2 physical processors pass on this server? Why not? How does esxi tell the OS about the number of physical processors and cores? pd:

If I'm not mistaken, it doesn't matter how many virtual processors (and with how many cores) you give to a Windows virtual machine. It is important how many processors are installed on a piece of iron.
For example, a windows server 2012 r2 standart license allows you to raise two virtual machines on one piece of hardware and it doesn’t matter what virtualization tools you use and how many resources the guest OS gives
