Analogue of AD only for Ubuntu Server? + administration?

Good day!
1) Interested in the question of an analogue of Active Directory for centralized management of workstations for unix systems.

  1. What you need: this solution requires a file server and serves to synchronize users.
  2. Puppet - does it have disadvantages and which ones? Other options?

2) What basic software is required to administer and monitor the network in the office?

Samba 4 allows you to build a full-fledged AD domain. There used to be a full manual, but lost. Sobsno what's left:
Enabling rfc2307 support on the current Samba4 ... Samba4-based
file server with full support ...
Samba4 password policy (Changing the Samba4 password policy ...

1. OpenLDAP or its derivatives. You just need to understand that AD is a very powerful software based on the LDAP protocol, it also rules computers, not only users. But OpenLDAP was originally created specifically for storing accounts, so in Linux you will have accounts in LDAP, and centralized server management through some other software: Chef / Puppet / Ansible / Salt.
2. Regarding puppet - if you are deploying from scratch, even if you have little experience, ansible is better - for normal use of puppet and chef you will have to deal with Ruby, and Ansible uses a simpler syntax for its scripts, and even on the servers themselves, except for ssh, yes bash doesn't need anything, no ruby packages, unlike puppet and chef.
