I used to also suffer with a choice, then I realized that there is nothing better than my favorite mail browser. You collect mail and that's it, I personally chose inbox from Google, aka gmail

Thunderbird is simply the best. After no, looking at Kmail and Sylpheed is simply impossible.
Alternatively, try SeaMonkey - in the same vein as Thunderbird, they have a lot in common. but suddenly?
And so - there is also mutt ...

From free it is simply not better than TB, but you can try:
1) Claws Mail
2) Evolution
3) Geary
4) Nylas Mail
5) Sylpheed
Kmail just works extremely crookedly, many services with 2-factor authorization are simply impossible to hook into it.
