After updating to Ubuntu 18.04 lts I see a black screen with a cursor, how can I fix it?

Problem in the graphical shell or already need to reinstall?

Ctrl-Alt-F1 go to the console terminal (graphics usually starts on the seventh terminal go to Ctrl-Alt-F7), there will be a user login prompt.
log in - find out what's wrong
start with "journalctl -b 0" last boot log. see what happened.

And besides the cursor, is there anything else that is output to the console? What was before the update? I usually save application settings in the cloud and rearrange the system completely.

If the drivers are proprietary, rebuild the dkms module.
It may well be that the installation of the packages was not completed, then:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
