Access to php script is denied if it is in a subfolder?

A web server is set up for ubuntu and sites work on it, there is also a php script for working with a third-party service that I threw into a separate folder in the root of the site, but for some reason as soon as I try to execute the script through the browser http://site.ru/ folder/script.php the server returns me a 403 error, the same thing if I created the info.php file, if they throw the script into the root of the site, then it works but does not want to be in a separate folder. In the logs I looked there something was said about the fact that .htaccess index.php was not found in the folder, etc. What could be the problem?
