A suitable solution for an amateur sports club website

I must say right away that our amateur volleyball club is not an organization, but simply a circle of interests , a group of sports enthusiasts, consisting mainly of former graduates of the sports school, who continue to meet and play volleyball regularly.

However, despite such a “yard” status, our club turns 25 next year, in connection with which I was asked to create a website for the club, since over the years there have been a lot of photos alone. And, given that in addition to respectable age, traditions are also strong in our club, we would very much like it all to be somehow orderly and not sink into oblivion over the years.

Initially, I looked towards traditional CMS (Wordpress, in particular, on which I had already created sites), but with the advent of Google+, it began to seem to me more and more that it has almost everything you need: a tape of records, photo albums and video archives. Moreover, with excellent integration of all services in one product. Lacked, perhaps, an analogue of static pages used on any site.

But Google+ profiles, until recently, were only for individuals, and not for communities and organizations. Now they have become available for GoogleApps, however, even there they are created for a specific person, and not for the entire domain representing the organization in the aggregate.

As a result, again at a crossroads: which option to choose. On the one hand, Google+ has an excellent integration of all the necessary services (photos and videos, first of all), on the other hand, I can’t quite imagine how the idea of our sports club website can now be linked into this scheme. Maybe there are some other options?

If there is a more or less technically savvy specialist, then I can advise a variant of my own site with a free Joomla CMS and a gallery plugin (Free or Datso Galery ).
Of course, such a solution looks somewhat cumbersome from the point of view of organizing ONLY a gallery, but it will easily allow you to expand the site, then announcements of news and all sorts of events.
For implementation, the knowledge of a first-year IT student who knows how to follow instructions is enough.
And if you don’t want to delve into technical subtleties at all, then you can do it much easier by organizing a VKontakte group. There are galleries and news and discussion, and all this is available even to a schoolboy.

The experience of our cycling community is that a “website” in the traditional sense of the word is not really needed. What to write there and who will do it?
Everything revolves around the forum, where people communicate on different topics.
A simple photo gallery aggregator is attached to it. An aggregator, since the photos are actually stored on Yandex, a photo file, a pikas, a radical - in general, where it is convenient and familiar to the authors. And only links to albums are collected locally.
Yours may be different. And yet, it seems to me that there is no point in messing with Joomla-Wordpress and making something from scratch. Not to mention the fact that storing photo and video at home is a hell of a lot of disk space and traffic.
Either a forum engine (one of the most common), or an existing social platform (the same G +).

Look, and you did not consider the possibility of creating your own social. network? I don't think you have terabytes of videos, photos, etc. In your social network members of the club for example will be able to communicate. If, for example, you don’t want a social network, then just make a site on joomla or drupal.
Videos can be uploaded to youtube, and photos to some picasa.

In G+, people still need to be dragged. If your team is not entirely geeks, then this will be a very difficult task.
In my opinion, WP is the best solution. It is well suited for presenting photos, videos, and the like. To communicate there, you can attach a chat or simply place a G +, VK, FB or Odnoklassniki widget to choose from.
