A small sistemnik without fans, so that it is turned on all the time and does not interfere?
There is an idea to try the project, users should be given a box the size of a modem or so, where Linux would be installed. Because it is planned that the device will work around the clock, then it should not make any noise, the fans in the power supply and on the processor are not allowed. Power is needed, say, 800MHz, 512MB memory, 64GB HDD or flash, Ethernet and space for a PCI card, but in extreme cases, PCMCIA / PCARD or USB will do.
In the current version, the software and drivers work on a regular x86 desktop. If it were a small x86 box, then it would be a miracle, additional squats like Linux embedded, cross-compiler, etc. would not be required.
The number of devices is planned to be one thousand, i.e. it's more than making your own case and less than ordering a batch from China.
Question one. Is such a miracle possible on x86 or without fans?
Question two. According to the requirements above, most likely, this is something on ARM, there are no fans, the power is somewhere around 1GHz, which is excellent, but I want a finished device in a case, not a do-it-yourself board.

I bought an HP thin client, inserted a memory card into it, and downloaded Debian. Works as a webserver, not buggy. The budget was £25. The t5000 series of cars, google it, this is what you need.
1000 pieces is quite a batch for manufacturing in China. Usually from 500 pcs.
Well, if you look at ready-made solutions, then take a closer look at nettops, they are on x86 and there are models without coolers, but as a minus, there is no expandability.
There are many passively cooled mITX motherboards on the Intel Atom.
ASUS AT5NM10T-I
There are also pisyuki in small cases on these mothers, all sorts of nettops and barebones. But the size there minimiu 170x170.
Type such:
Pent
A full-
fledged x86 platform - at least Win7 works without problems

Yuzayu ASRock Ion 330, old, there is a fan, but very quiet, you can't hear it. And if you want to assemble it yourself, you can find a motherboard, but it’s difficult to find a case for passive cooling.
For example, eBOX-3350MX . I didn’t see any detailed information, but supposedly Windows XP is spinning on it (I mean that there, although unknown to me, is still an x86-compatible CPU). By the way, if anyone came across, tell us in more detail what kind of device.
I was looking for something similar once.
Here is a good choice: www.ipc2u.ru/catalog/E/ (section "Compact computers")
look at STB for IPTV. According to the description, it is the most.
Previously, there was ARM and VxWorks, but lately more and more people are leaning towards x86 and Linux.
Just do not confuse - there are also on Windows and even poppy drivers sculpt something of their own.
Look at nettops, Asus Eee Box EB1012P, for example, or analogues from Qoo
Normal such Atoms on x86. I have several internal web servers "spinning" in computer classes 24/7 and hanging on the wall - no one even notices them.
