A simple browser game?

I'm gaining experience in Yii2, I've made my blog, I've made my invented simple project.
I want to make a simple card game for two people for experience and interest.
What is needed for this:
1. Backend, frontend and database?
2. Can it be used for yii2 backend, for mysql base?
3. What else to use for the front besides html/css?

You take yii2 as api, you take some js framework like angular or ember to the front, you communicate with the server via rest :)
