I work in places where it is difficult to receive cellular communications, I noticed a feature that old phones and Chinese phones receive a signal where they stop "seeing" smartphones. I don’t remember specific brands for a long time, but the essence is this:
about 5-6 years ago, a stationary gsm phone and a 18dB (or 13?) directional gsm antenna gave a confident reception (3 antenna divisions) where ordinary mobile phones could not do anything at all (extremely difficult conditions).
And do not forget about the maximum range of the base (like 30 km) - further time lags already interfere.
