A few questions about credit cards

Hello. There are several questions about bank cards from the paranoid:

  • Let's say I enter my card details on the site. What are the guarantees that only the agreed amount of money will be withdrawn from me, and not, for example, 5 times more?
  • Can a store use my details to easily withdraw money without my knowledge?
  • Can a virus steal card data and then withdraw money? For example, some keyloggers.

Thanks in advance for your reply

There is a preventive protection method for all three alarms - 3-D Secure (MC calls it SecureCode).
At the time of the transaction, the bank contacts you in some way (SMS for example) and sends you a temporary code for the transaction. If you prohibit transactions without 3ds confirmation, then even knowing your number and so on, you will not be able to withdraw money. But there are also disadvantages: not all processing centers support this confirmation method, although it is already difficult to find such ones now.
There is also the option of issuing a virtual card with a limit on your specific purchase. Of the minuses - the fee for creating a map, albeit a small one.
Well, in extreme cases - if some crooks carry out a transaction with which you disagree - then you can contact your issuing bank. In resolving disputable situations, the issuing bank has priority, and therefore you. Usually, processing centers meet halfway when resolving controversial issues, because. they don't want to be blacklisted.

No guarantees - you gave the data to the site. If you want guarantees, go to an insurance office.
Remember the contact center number of your bank and be sure to subscribe to the SMS mailing list that the bank sends out with each transaction

. Can the store use my data for simple withdrawals without my knowledge?
Why is this store?
Can a virus steal card data and then withdraw money? For example, some keyloggers.
Why viruses if you entered your card details yourself ???

1) None, except that stores are usually sane and do not deceive people. Your question could only have been born from a Russian person who has the lowest level of trust, and there are most of them in Russia, thanks to the USSR and the 90s.
2) Easy, but sanity does not allow them.
3) Easy, that's why people use antiviruses.

As far as I know, a reliable way is to open an account without a card in a good bank and an account with a card. Before buying, transfer the required amount to the card account with interest and make a purchase.
You will say, well, it’s inconvenient to transfer back and forth, for a long time, but what can you do, these payment systems are American, based on trust, but I don’t understand how you can trust a site on the Internet and virus-infested windows computers.

for some reason, no one wrote about the release of a virtual visa in qiwi. Register in qiwi, get a card, pay from it, close it, start a new one. But this is for the paranoid at all, reissue the card for each payment)

1. As far as I know, the amount that you pay to the store is blocked on the store's account. If you find something wrong, you can return it.
2. PIN code required
3. Yes

xs, 3ds is highly praised here, and my friend's money was stolen from the Privatbank card and the bank refused to reimburse him precisely because this same 3ds was used in the payment.

I recently received a salary card from Privatbank.
They immediately issued two cards - salary and universal.
Yesterday I ordered a virtual one for payment on the Internet.
And the mechanism is simple - all the money is on the salary (only payment to me), the withdrawal is limited.
If necessary, a certain amount is transferred to a universal one for payment in stores and ATMs;
if you need to pay on the Internet, the required amount is transferred to a virtual card, payment is in progress.
