There is a forum on the PHPBB engine, you need to send messages to users via mail. These can be forum posts or posts from other users. There is no time to read the documentation from the word at all - you need a solution that will receive mail from the forum and send it almost immediately after installation. Other features are absolutely unnecessary.
I installed exim, but it is so complicated that I will sit in it for a week to figure it out, but I don’t have a week. And, frankly, there is no desire to study a system that is needed only for 1% of its capabilities.
