XMLHttpRequest or fetch?

Should we now phase out the deprecated XMLHttpRequest in favor of fetch ?
Or each task has its own method? What tangible benefits of fetch would you highlight?

Browser support for fetch is pretty good.

In an ideal world, you have an http client abstraction in which you can easily change the implementation without changing the rest of the code
