This question periodically pops up here, but since life does not stand still, the old answers are not always relevant.

Question - I want to buy a prefix. Requirements:
1. Possibility of softmod (or simple hardmod) for you know what
2. Possibility of use as a media center

Presence of any specific toys on a particular platform is not important. Kinect is cute, so I'm leaning towards the xbox.

I have been using the Playstation 3 as a media center since the first modification (fatki) and, apart from rare incomprehensible failures in Wi-Fi speed, there are no problems (of course, you should forget about mkv out of the box).
I don’t support piracy in any way and I think that 2 thousand per game every few months and a PSN subscription of 2 thousand per year can somehow be found at a console cost of 10-12 thousand rubles, you don’t buy with the last money.
The choice of a game console is usually based on exclusives (Gran Turismo for Playstation for example), and not on "where it's easier to pirate."

The PS3 in games has a frame rate of about 23 frames per second. Xbox has 30 frames per second.
Both consoles cannot be used as media centers if you want to watch a sailor suit under 40-80 GB.
I use DLNA from a TV set.

you can't hack a new ps3, hacking requires firmware 3.55 or lower, which is already several years old. It remains only the second-hand option, but as I understand it, you are not considering it. I don't know how the box is. Also, with a flashed PS3, running an online job is quite a chore and for this you need a separate running computer with a special program and setting up vpn on PS3

I don’t think that ps4 will be hacked, xbox one is similar, if they are hacked, then in the middle of the life of this console.
And if you choose between xbox 360 and ps3, then from the side of hacking - only xbox 360, with xkey you get a full-fledged xbox 360 + live with the ability to play “downloaded” games online with others without bans and other problems (games with an additional service that you need to buy for online), which can not be said about the ps3.
