While the disk itself is 130-150.

Try Xen. In paravirtualized mode, even Windows (if there are paravirtualized drivers) under it gives about 8 gigabits over the network and a couple of gigabits over the disk.

what is the storage format used for virtual machines?
Somehow conducted a performance comparison. Description and results can be read here: en.5.ispdoc.com/index.php/%D0%A1%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%B2...

I had a performance drop of 8 ... 10%. Tried to use ext4 on a single screw, specified the /dev/md1 device as the disk carrier - there is no difference. Using software raid 1 gives an increase in read speed, write speed is similar to a single screw.
