Initially, it was impossible to use native PHP functions in the template, but I found an option after which the template engine is disabled and you can write any PHP code. First of all, I deduced all the engine files with a tree, then I found the database config and after that I could already fully work with the database, I could delete files or do something in the database. I did not spoil anything and just wrote to support that there is such a bug on the site. In fact, a hack is the search for bugs and their application.
This means that in order to hack something, you need to know how and what works at all levels. You can't be a C++ hacker or you can't be a server hacker. You need to be someone to hack a server, you need to be able to create it first. Manual hacking is not hacking, it's a repetition of what someone has already done. Being a hacker means solving problems with your head.

Learning Linux is a good idea, and it doesn't really matter which one. I have never used Kali. Most likely, it's just some popular distro + beautiful wallpapers and a bunch of pre-installed software. But to understand how all this software works, why and how to use it effectively, you need to have extensive knowledge in the field of networks, protocols, operating systems, databases, etc. Software development skills will come in handy, and knowledge of hardware. Social engineering again. Some sections of mathematics...
Very briefly: in order to "hack" something, you need to understand how it works.
You will have to understand a lot of things, including the fundamental ones. There is a lot of material on each topic, but here it is already necessary to search in detail.
