Backup

Will Time Machine backup work if you first make it via SMB, and then insert the disk directly?

Tell me, if you set up a Time Machine backup via SMB (just a router with a USB disk), will it be possible then "if necessary" to turn off the disk and just stick it directly into the poppy so that the backup continues? For example, if you are leaving somewhere.

Now backups are made simply by periodically connecting the HDD in the USB box, but I thought about updating the router and sticking this HDD into it for more permanent backups. But if you need to leave, I would like to take the disk with me without reformatting and losing backups.

@Akuma

unlikely: I doubt that your router will recognize a disk formatted in hfs / apfs.

The router will most likely format to ext4, this fs is not supported for using the time machine
