Will positions return?

I made a report on positions (SEO analysis - serpstat), as a result, I look at a number of requests in the top 10, but the pages have not existed for like a year. As I was told by those serpstat support, the data is updated 1-15 months. As a result, in the monitoring today I look at this key position 76 (there is a new page for a long time). It turns out that Google slept for a whole year and ranked pages with 404 errors in good positions? How to save traffic by position when the position has already fallen at the key, redirect?

Of course, a redirect. But the positions most likely will not return. If there are external links to articles with a 404, then this will help a little when ranking new pages. But a redirect is required.
