Will .NET MAUI be cross-platform and eventually replace WPF and Xamarin?

It seems like it was thought that this was more a replacement for xamarin and not about a desktop for other OSes, but I looked at
Announcing .NET MAUI Preview 6 here - apparently it already works under macOS. It turns out that Java and QT, as cross-platform UI, will have to move a little? If anyone is following this topic, can you enlighten what to expect from this?

Two days ago, Mikey also rolled out his Linux distribution , maybe MAUI will do it under the tench.
Does this mean that now is the time to drop everything and focus on MAUI? P.S. What is .NET MAUI

?
- I looked, but did not quite understand what and how it will be.

MAUI focuses on mobile phones. So IOS and Android first.
UWP and Mac will also be, but it is not clear why.
Wpf can, but they don't really want to.
Linux could, too, and the excuse about the Linux zoo does not work, because in the end they build on a completely standard Gtk.
But it seems that there are simply few who want to.
There will probably be solutions on GitHub, as there are solutions for Xamarin.
Now MAUI is basically stuck. In the preview, even Hello World is not going to.
So, oddly enough, Blazor has better cross-platform prospects in the next couple of years.
