Implemented a simple referral system on the site (a link like "site.ru/city/?r=ref_id"), but clients usually use mobile devices and enter the link manually. Therefore, I think to make the link as short as possible of the type "site.ru/ref_ID" (ref_ID consists of 2-3 letters), which already automatically redirects to the page "site.ru/city/?r=ref_id"
(I have few referrals, I'm ready to do I didn’t do it manually
before and I want to know if this idea has the right to life, maybe there are some pitfalls, but I don’t know about them (I haven’t seen such an implementation on other sites). I would appreciate any advice.

But you need to understand that the more referrals there are, the more you need to do redirects by hand.
