Wi-fi on windows 8.1 and linux mint 16-17
I wanted to transfer the laptop to linux mint 16 or 17. But I noticed that where windows 8.1 caught the network signal at maximum quality, etc., Linux either does not catch it at all or has a very poor signal level. The laptop has a wireless module from realtek. I was not too lazy to test the reception quality on different operating systems and saw that such nonsense is observed on any linux distribution.

Perhaps installing nonfree firmware will help.
Or, as an option, you can try ndis wrapper en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NDISwrapper
The question is, is this when running on battery or mains? In ubuntu, when running on battery, the power saving mode for the wi-fi adapter is turned on and the pings increase sharply.
Run iwconfig and look at the adapter details.
There will be network quality, signal-to-noise ratio, connection speed, whether power saving is enabled, etc.
