Why, when connecting a computer to a TV via HDMI (via a DVI adapter), do I see the Windows XP desktop, but the video player has a black screen?

There is a computer with Windows XP, installed codecs and VLC player. As well as a 2016 TV (Smart TV) with HDMI input. A TV is connected to the output of the video card of the computer through a DVI-HDMI adapter. I see a slave table, shortcuts, and when playing a video in the player, only sound. There is a picture on the monitor (VGA), but not on the TV set. What's the matter?

Open graphics card settings and set DVI as primary monitor.

In any player such garbage?
Be sure to try VLC as well.
And we try different formats.
Or a problem with the rendering settings (video output), some kind of overlay is crooked, then we check the drivers, codecs and their settings,
Or is it some tricky HDCP. In this case, the player would change.

as an option, you screwed up something in the VLC with an overlay. so try it in a clear potplayer - samlab.ws/soft/potplayer
