Why should a website have its own smartphone app?

There is a portal (news, directory, announcements, multimedia) with 1000 unique visitors per day. There is a mobile version of the site. But lately they have begun to think about their own mobile application, since you need to keep up with the times. And we need to provide users with convenient access to content, but at the same time we are afraid that the site's traffic will fall (by the counter) and we think that this will affect the cost of banner space. What are the pros and cons of the app?

If you discard "should have or not" - you are afraid of losing visits and clicks. But you can put ad space in the app too, right? So the total number of views will not decrease, but will simply be divided among different sources.
