Why is webpack needed?

Interested in the question, do I need to use webpack (I use webpack in conjunction with Galp) to work with React? No matter how much I googled, people use both this and that, and all together at the same time. I have a poor understanding of the meaning of webpack as such. Let's say if I need to build components for react to work, I can just use gulp-rigger which can import content, why should I use webpack in this case? What task runner can’t do in 2019, what can and does webpack do well?

Here, too, if webpack is of no use to you now, don't use it, just a moment will come when you yourself will understand what you should use, webpack or gulp.

If you need a collector for the sake of assembly, then parcel is an ideal candidate, well, or create-react-app, as mentioned above
