Why is ultimate thread group not reacting to variable?

Added user defined variables and created myVar variable with some integer value.
When substituting the ${myVar} variable in the Strartup Time in the ultimate thread group, I see that the graph is not equal to the value that I specified, but zero.
Who faced this and how did you solve it?
