Why is there a "soap" effect in linux when watching a video?

In general, I have 2 wasps on my PC. Linux Ubuntu and Windows 7.
I watch the video of one stairplayer, but not online, but first I download, that's not the point.
I always looked at Ubuntu through VLC, but yesterday I was too lazy to reboot into linux because I was playing toys in windows. After downloading the video, I opened it in KMPlayer and was surprised to say the least.
In windows, the video looks much better, there is no this soapy effect, as if everything is in a fog.
Actually the question is why? Is it a free driver because it's in Ubuntu? Or is VLC so bad?
