Why is there a long REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS execution?

I have a 450 gigabyte database, I have to do REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS. I realize that this is the very last step, but I have no other choice. How can you estimate the time, how much it will be performed? It "spun" for me for 8.5 hours, after which I had to cancel. Is it possible to see somewhere how many percent are completed? Thank you.
