Why is the maximize button missing in gimp?

For some reason, the maximize button disappeared in Gimp.
OS - Linux Mint 18
DE - Cinnamon

Edit --> Preferences --> Window Management option --> "Reset Saved Window Positions to Default Values" and restart gimp
