Why is submit not interrupted?

There is a small login form. It has a register button. js, when you click on it, it replaces the login form with a registration form. To check the password fields, you need to validate them, but onsubmit is not interrupted in any way. What's wrong?

Your button cannot submit... Tie it
to the form.
