Why is nginx not working?

nginx: [emerg] unexpected "{" in /etc/nginx/nginx.conf:121
Can't figure out what the problem is

The problem is an unexpected "{" character in the /etc/nginx/nginx.conf file on line 121. You
can only tell for sure by seeing this and the previous line.
Presumably - forgotten ";" on the previous line.

Surely in the script, the 121st is the very last line.
As it opens:
but then there is no closing "}" after the last block.

auth_basic_user_file htpasswd;
root php;admin admin.php admin.ph;
}
}
