Why is .NET/C#/ASP MVC so popular?

The question may seem silly, but still. Why so many vacancies with .NET/C#/ASP MVC? Do they then compile everything using Mono or rent windows servers and run their miracle there?

Why so many vacancies with .NET/C#/ASP MVC?

A good platform, in no way inferior to the rest.
IIS as an application server does a good job.
Windows as a server works no worse than Linux.
Microsoft is actively developing the platform and services. So in the future there will be even more vacancies and projects!
Well, C# as a language is probably top1 now.
Here you have LINQ and expression trees and asynchronous programming and dynamic typing. And now the compiler will be rewritten and in general it will be fine.

Apparently, Windows is still more popular than most other operating systems. Why not write under where the widest audience of potential buyers is?
