Why is Java more popular than Kotlin in 2019?

As far as I understand, if we compare in detail which one is better, weighing all the pros and cons, then the choice falls on Kotlin. Why, then, has its popularity not grown so far and outgrown the popularity of Java?

Because legacy. Tons of code have already been written that no one will rewrite.
Because java is an industrial language with a specification and a long history.
And then. If you take mobile phones, then Kotlin is more popular. So come back in 5 years.

Why are Fortran, Cobol and PL/1 developed in the 60s still in use today? Because gigantic libraries have been written that no one will rewrite :) Although finding a specialist to fix the program, say, in cobol, was already a task for itself in the late 90s :)
When something conquers the masses, it begins to hold itself by this. How long have 3.5" floppy disks existed? Tape-recording compact cassettes? (they still seem to have not died ...)
