Why is it bad to use polling and how to minimize losses?

There is an unfortunate bot that refuses to work on webhook'e (on pooling ok). The reason is most likely in the domain, certificates or server. Using polling and spamming the telegram server for updates is bad, but so far I can only do this.
What are the associated traffic losses/transmission problems, etc. should I consider?
If this is really bad, then where to hire a freelancer who will help and set up a bot from pooling to a webhook?
