Heroku
Alexander, 2014-09-08 04:11:36

Why is Heroku needed?

There was a project on AWS and EC2 with php
Then a project, programmers used RnR and heroku
Now a new project, they gave hardware for configuration, a question arose, like how to make it as convenient as in heroku I
started to figure it out and realized that heroku = "EC2 + git"
There was a question, what for mania to use Heroku? Fashion trends? hipster? Or laziness? Prices are much higher. What can be done on EC2 for $70 a month was spent on Heroku for $250. What is the difference?

Heroku is very useful for companies that have a lot of projects and these projects are not banal business card sites, but something more complex.
Typically, such companies have a whole DevOps department that deploys the entire infrastructure in the same EC2.
The beauty of Heroku is that DevOps is no longer needed. All deployments, forks of the whole application, connection of any service (databases, logging, monitoring, mailing, etc.) are done in a couple of clicks. It turns out that all the work of the devops has already been done.

Well, heroku is not only EC2, but that's not the point, that's it. You can write your bikes and the cost will be zero, because hosting should be like that ... Some.
The point is that heroku will also provide support, guarantees, hundreds of different platforms. Something like this. But in general, yes. There is no point. As well as using git - you can transfer everything on flash drives, and versioning - with folders and 7z archives. Once upon a time they did. The bottom line is that a person focuses only on what he needs. Yes, and in my purely personal opinion, there is no difference in sacrificing 250 or 70 raccoons, as long as the project brings thousands a month. And for personal and non-commercial projects, heroku has special rates.
