Why is data corrupted during FTP transfer?

Greetings, dear users! When transferring data via FTP, I found discrepancies in the MD5 hashes of the original and transferred files. The question is, is the protocol itself so unreliable, or should we suspect problems with the network or the machine to which the data was transferred?
PS: Transferred backup file from Proxmox VE (Debian) ftp command line utility to Windows 10 machine via FileZilla FTP server on it.

You need to check the settings, namely the mode and type of file transfer.
For the regular FileZilla desktop client:

Настройки -> Соединения -> FTP
Настройки -> Передачи -> FTP: File Types

You are most likely using ASCII file transfer
