Why is data being removed from MongoDB?

Plz tell me what could be the reason?
I installed MongoDB on Ubuntu VPS and created collections through Compass and downloaded all the documents that I exported from the mlab cloud database. Everything seemed
to be fine, but a little more than a day passed and all records and collections disappeared in the database.
What could be the reason? how to trace the error if there is one?
