Why is a port not needed when redirecting?
Why do SEOs often ask you to remove the port from Location on 301 redirects?
for example https://site.com:443/catalog/ change to https://site.com/catalog/
All the same, because Google perceives this as identical links, removing the port on its own, or am I not understanding something?

You confuse the sequence, you don’t remove the port, but for some reason it’s in the redirect, for some reason you add the port you have is standard and not custom, and why you are doing extra work is not clear
