Why is a function needed?

For example, I want to write a program that will calculate the amount of a mortgage for a certain period. I tried to write such a program through loops. But after all it will be easier to write it through functions?

Nothing prevents you from using both.
And the question is revealed by reading at least the first chapters of any practical training book on the basics of programming.
