Why is 1 Satoshi not sent through the Bitcoin network?

Tried to send 1 satoshi via bitcoind - unable to create transaction. And just like that, any sum less than 0.0001 seems to be. Is it possible to somehow send exactly 1 satoshi?

You can send 1 satoshi. But in order for people not to engage in such "spam", there is a rule that such a transaction will certainly not be free for you. You will have to pay a fee. In general, do not play the fool, because 1 satoshi is much less than a penny. In real life, you won't even bend over to pick it up. Use testnet for testing.
I'm not sure exactly, but another possible reason is that the Bitcoin-Qt client considers such spam transactions "non-standard" and refuses to create (and forward) them. You can try to use another client without this limitation.
