Why encode jwt token in base64?

Actually, I did not understand why to encode the token in base64. Reading from base64 is not difficult. Basically, it's a redundant operation.

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc2616#sect...
json cannot suddenly appear in http headers, this is a violation of the protocol
