Why download fonts?

Why do I need to download or take fonts from somewhere to create a site? I thought you just write in the css property "verdana, arial, georgia, etc." and that's it. :)

Because not all of the fonts you specified have. There are a lot of good fonts in Google Fonts , they can be downloaded or used through the Google server

Because the default fonts will look different on different devices. It's better to download everything, even Verdana, Arial or Times new roman. With the latter, I just had an unpleasant situation. On the computer, the title was three lines, the same picture was on low resolution in the inspector, however, when I opened the site on the phone, the 3 lines turned into 4, because on Android this font is slightly different. Because of this, some styles and indents flew.
It is also not recommended to use the connection of fonts through the Google server. You have to be a jerk to do that (alas, most of them). All files, images and fonts should be stored only on your server and nowhere else.

It is best to download fonts and connect from a file! Do not use third party services!
This affects the loading of the site. + if Google is blocked in some country, or something else, then the connected fonts will not work)))
So are all other files, bootstrap jq sliders, etc., all to yourself)))
