Why don't VPN clients work on a freshly installed macOS Hight Sierra?
The brief essence of the question is in the title, we have an old macbook with only High Sierra installed from the AppStore. Not a single VPN client works, I tried Nord, Proton, etc., access to the keychain was granted to applications, in the vpn network settings a connection is created, but not connected. I tried different protocols if the VPN provider allows it, even reinstalling the OS through the recovery partition did not help, the Internet is working fine, there are no problems from the provider, everything is fine on the other macbook. Using NordVPN as an example, port 443 should be used for OpenVPN TCP connections, port 1194 for UDP. nmap says that these ports are closed, the built-in firewall is turned off (as I understand on Mac OS, ports should be opened upon request from the application if the firewall is not enabled), I also tried prescribe DNS VPN provider. The problem is definitely not on the side of vpn providers, I tried five pieces. I don’t know where to dig anymore, please don’t offer to upgrade to Mojave, the macbook is no longer supported.
