Why doesn't the system start after installing the Nvidia driver under Ubuntu + Gnome3?

Hello toaster people.
I installed Ubuntu 14.04.03 with Unity - I installed the video driver from their office. repository - a black screen, the system did not boot (only a light caret in the form of an underline flickered in the dark :) ). Actually, I was told on the Ubuntu forum that the cant is in the drivers, that they have not been updated yet, or something like that. They advised me to install the drivers for the video card from another repository, in particular from this one - ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
Installed. Everything is OK. The system is loading. Put the 352nd version.
Decided to "jump" on the gnome. Downloaded and installed distro. Ubuntu 14.04.03 + Gnome. As a result, it will not boot again after installing the driver. Again I decided to install the 352nd driver from ppa: graphics-drivers/ppaand nothing happened. Although on Ubuntu, where Unity was, everything was OK. Why is this and how to solve this problem? After all, everything is the same, only the graph. environment is different or not?

Solved the problem by creating xorg.conf
True, strange. Because last time without this line everything worked.
