usually the gallery needs to calculate the width, and since the fancybox content is hidden, it has nothing to calculate.
When you open the console, a resize is performed and the gallery does a recalculation.
You need to initialize after opening the window, or resize the gallery. Look at the plugin documentation, everything is there.
